Film Review: ‘Spouse’ shows gender issues at workplace

ifilm Saturday’s pick ‘Spouse’ depicts how gender differences play in at Iran workplaces.

ifilm Saturday’s pick ‘Spouse’ depicts how gender differences play in at Iran workplaces, giving a practical solution to deal with such issue.

The film pioneers how women in the position of power as a manager can challenge gender stereotypes in society.

The Iranian approach to deal with a situation where the tables are turned to the benefit of women can be of significance to our viewers.

While the movie was produced a few decades ago, the power imbalance between men and women was superbly depicted.

Nevertheless, the film has picked up a reasonable approach to highlight women’s rights within the boundaries of a family.

Women's empowerment in the case of high-ranking positions can benefit men as well as society. It goes without saying that ‘Spouse’ has made a great cinematic contribution to such gender equality notion.

Spouse’ tells the story of a couple who work together at the same company. Everything seems to be going well for them, but when the wife suddenly climbs the ladder of success, her husband can’t bear it.

As the husband begins to plan and scheme to bring her down, reports of fraud at the company threaten to ruin their marriage.

The movie cast list includes Sirous Ebrahimzadeh, Nasrin Moqanlou, Mehdi Hashemi, Parastou Golestani, Farahnaz Manafi-Zaher, and Fatemeh Motamed-Arya.

‘Spouse’, made in 1993, is scheduled to go on air at 22:00 GMT.

ifilm English will also repeat the movie the next day at 04:00, 10:00 and 16:00 (all GMT times).
